Need help badly--this is the error message I receive when I try to send email from OE6:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: ********, Server: ********, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
    OR
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: *******, Server: ********, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I put in the *** for privacy matters.

I used to have no problems and now this. I went over the settings with a tech and the only thing he could come up with is that i might have to do with my internet security. We also tried other ports but that didn't work either.

I use Norton Internet Security--could Norton have something to do with this problem? It is driving me crazy--

Will really appreciate any and all help!

When did the problem start? Did you make any changes to the pc?

Is the email account with one ISP but you're connected to a different one? If so, no can do.

Noticed the problem over the last 2 days.

Not sure what you mean re: email account with one ISP but connected to a different one.

I have 3 email accounts set up in OE. One is my personal one and the other 2 are email for business. No problem with my personal account. I just changed to ATT a few days ago. I also changed the incoming mail/outgoing mail for the business accounts per a tech for that email service. He even had me try different ports--no good. Could Norton have something to do with it since I changed the incoming/outgoing mail settings for the two business accounts? The tech mentioned that it could be Norton but, of course, they don't support Norton. All I can say is that all 3 accounts worked before.

I've seen sites for repairing the socket error 10061 but hesitate to do that without knowing what it even means!

Thanks for the speedy response--have to get this solved!

Meaning, if AT&T is your ISP and you take the machine to a location where the ISP is Comcast or anyone besides AT&T....

It very well could be Norton. Turn Norton off and see if that helps...If it does, then look for a setting inside Norton.

Well, finally have it fixed--it was a port setting for the outgoing mail. Actually the tech yesterday had me try this but for some reason it didn't work then. I just kept trying everything and finally it clicked it.

Many thanks for your help--appreciate it!
