I am using XP and IE as my browser and have not been able to hold any previous web pages other than the current one on my task bar. In other words whenever I choose a new web page the last one vanishes. I have gone to internet options for a solution to no avail. Any suggestions anyone?[/SIZE]

If you have Yahoo Toolbar unistall it in add>remove programs. It's usually the cause of this type of thing. If you don't want to uninstall it, you could try disabling it in IE's add-ons. In IE, click tools>internet options>programs and click the manage add-ons button.

Depending upon exactly what you mean by the phrase "the other one disappears ", you also may want to check IE options on the advanced tab and make sure you do not have the option to reuse widows for launching shortcuts checked or enabled.

I recieved this in a PM from charlesduran.
HI Charles. I'm not sure what to tell you. Perhaps it didn't get uninstalled properly. Have a look at this MS page and see if you can remove it this way. More than likely it's gone but it can't hurt to have a look. If there's nothing there, have a look in IE's add-ons and see if there's any reference there to Yahoo Companion. If so, disable it and see what happens. Since you had the toolbar and it does cause this problem for some people, I have to wonder if it's still lurking there somewhere.

How to Uninstall or Turn off the Yahoo! Companion Browser Toolbar

I'll copy and post this to the thread so that others can see where you're at with this. You can find your thread here There's several ways you can find a thread if you happen to lose one. If you click the User CP button at the top left of any of these pages it'll take you to your control panel. On the left side there's a list of links. If you click on the one that says list subscriptions, it'll show you a list of links to each thread you've posted to. Find the one you want in the list and click on it. Also, you can click the search button at the top, choose advanced search and then search using the username feature. Just put your username in the username box and it'll find all of your posts. Another way? :D If you happen to be viewing one of your posts, to the left of any of your posts you'll see your name. Click on it and you'll see a link that says
Find More Posts by charlesduran. That'll get you pretty much the same thing as the first two methods.

Let us know what you find.

I'm not really sure what to say. I'll have to do some searching to see if I can find an answer. Whenever I've run into this, it's always been the toolbar that caused it. Unless, maybe I'm misunderstanding. My understanding is that you can't have more then one IE window open at once. If you open a new window the original one you already have open disappears? Is this correct?

I'll copy this to your thread also. To make a reply to the thread, when viewing it, look at the top left, just above the first post in the thread. You'll see a button that says reply. Click it and your reply will be added to the thread. There's also a reply button at the lower left, just below the last post in the thread. Here's a link to the thread.

cannot save web pages to task bar.

Yes, that is correct. However, occasionally there will be a previous web site saved on the task bar. Just a few minutes ago as I was reading your message there was a small rectangular box with the number two on it on the task bar. And sure enough, it showed two web site available, the one that was being currently viewed and the last one I had opened. I played around with this by alternating the two web pages and then went to my favorites and chose another web page. It then displaced the last web page I was viewing but still kept the previous page I had just been watching. I then deleted both web pages, but could not repeat the process. That is to say at the moment, I will lose the current web page if I download another one. This "phenomenon" had happened before. I hope I have made myself clear and thanks for your effort. Charles

    charles,

A couple of things you can try... I re-read one of your earlier posts and there is a little confusion with the option to 'reuse windows for launching shortcuts'. Make sure there is not a checkmark next to this option. Another thing you can try is opening a 'new window' in IE if you don't want to lose your last page. This feature can be found in the menu, under File, or the shortcut to open a new window is CTRL + N.

It also sounds as if you may be using the option to group your taskbar buttons. This is the taskbars ability to group similar tasked or opened windows in the same button on the taskbar. Done in an effort to save real estate on the taskbar, if you have more tasks opened than can comfortably fit on the taskbar. You may wish to turn off or disable this allowing your browser buttons to fall where they may on the bar:
    >right click on the taskbar and select properties
    >On the taskbar tab uncheck group similar taskbar buttons
    >hit okay and close

IE distinguishes between a page opened by a URL click on an existing Web Page, and a page opened by a click on something like a Favorite.

The former are handled by URLMON.DLL while the latter are handled directly by IE.

It is the URLMON handled pages that are controlled by the checkbox in Internet Options, Advanced. The IE "popup" web page handling from a Favorite or other source generates a new page.
