I have an application that tries to use chrome.exe. However, it gets an error and will not run. Eliminating the application and trying to run it from command line results in the same error. I don't know if it is a problem with Windows or chrome.exe so I am hoping some here can help. It seems like errors running it are fairly common but I cannot find anything on this particular error (see attachment). TIA.

It is a python3 application I am writing but that is not the issue since I cannot even run it from cmd.

I have tried a few but not the PC repair application. The implication is that there is something wrong with the PC rather than a problem with chrome.exe. I am having trouble accepting that.

And if you switch computers, the new / to be tested application runs well?

If NOT, why do you think the issue is with the computer?

You must have misunderstood. I don't think it is the computer but the remedies in that link imply it is (e.g. PC Repair Application). It didn't occur to me to try it on a different computer but that is a good idea.

It's easy to run sfc /scannow to see if your comp is running OK.
Don't use the suggested Software as this is generally "bloated".

That tested the OS Files. It leaves your software as the possible cause.

Software, meaning chrome.exe itself? If so where do I download a different copy?

    Software meaning YOUR python3 application.

Did you try it on another computer yet?

It is not Python3. As I said earlier, it does then same thing with I try to launch chrome.exe from command line.

I have not had a chance to try another computer yet.

You mentioned that "it is a python3 application I am writing."

Have you ever seen the application run?
Are you 100% certain the new application is bullet proof? Meaning it is without error...

When you attempt to use Chrome as a web browser AND not involved the new APP.... does it do that OK?

I am getting back to this project. I did not have another Windows 7 machine available but I tried to run it on a Linux machine and it works. Clearly there is something with respect chrome.exe under Windows 7 that is the problem. Chrome.exe from command line on Linux does not have a problem like under Windows 7 so it is not Python per se.

If your app works on Linux but not on Windows then the problem is not Chrome. It is likely a permissions thing when on Windows. Your python code may be correct but there are differences between how python runs on Linux and runs on Windows. Could even be a Windows Firewall thing.

I've given up on this. I switched to using Selenium where I can specify Firefox instead and it works fine.
