Installed a program and then deleted it (early adopter should have backed up registry - I know!)- but left with a puzzle. Outlook 2000 will not resize. It only opens maximized. If you right click to restore or click on the icon to restore, the program minimizes. Clicking on the minimized tray icon does nothing, until you right click and maximize, then clicking on the header bar minimizes and clicking the tray icon maximizes. Cannot get anywhere to resize.

Tried an Office 2o00 repair and it did nothing - presumbaly some registry key is messed up - whichever saves the last size? Did also try making a new shortcut and changing properties to open as a normal window - again no change, still maximized.

Looking for advice - not sure if I delete the whole of Outlook whether this will change, Windos probably keep the current preferences somehwere - I could delete and reintsall it in a different location...interested to see if anyone has any other suggestions first.

My Outlook opens maximised also - wouldn't have it any other
    way.
What size do you want it to open (width x height in pixels)
    and why ?

    Found a solution

I like to have Outlook with about an inch of clear space around the outside, so that I can easily switch to other programs. I know that all the icons are minimized in the tray, but I find it easier to be able to answer an e-mail while working on spreadsheet by clicking outside the program.

I finally found a solution having uninstalled and re-installed Outlook again. Messing around I had several windows open and tried maximizing all, minimizing all, then cascading and tiling horizontally and finally tiling vertically. None of the first methods worked, as the Outlook window always minimized, but when I tiled vertically I had 4 windows open and each window became a 1/4 of the page. Instead of untiling I resized each window. The Outlook window is now back to a regular size!

Glad you found a solution - I was going to suggest Basta Computing Z-Mover. but you seem to have everything smoothed now. Interesting post !
With my setup here tho' I have Outlook maximised but can still
reach any desktop or toolbar item, with a click ...
    regards

merlin - I think it may be a matter of habit or something.

I know that lots of folks like to do as you are doing with maximized windows.

Others (including me) rarely or never allow maximized windows even if we expand the window to take nearly all of the screen.

And I can't begin to explain any why on this.
