Just got my family home network up and running.

On a laptop downstairs and I was in the process of mapping drives to other computers. Every comp is WinXP.

So I map to Drive D on Central Workstation. So it shows:

    "Drive d on 'Central Workstation (Chieftec)' (G: ) "

So I attempted to rename it because of the lowercase "d" since I wanted it to show a capital "D ". But after deleting the "d ", it would not let me retype it and would just keeping ringing that "dong" on me. I tried disconnecting all Mapped Network Drives and reconnecting them, and it stll shows the missing "d ". I don't dare delete anymore or it will keep getting worse and worse.

How do I fix it so that the name is correct? Even the folder in "My Network Places" shows the correct name with Capital D, but mapping it so it shows the correct name is a nightmare.

    Appreciate your help. Thanks.

    What appears has three parts:

Drive d --- this comes from the sharename on the Host computer

on 'Central Workstation' --- Computer Description from Host computer

(Chieftec) --- Computername of the Host computer -- its NETBIOS name

To change the first part go to the Host computer and Rename the Share.
