Here is a link to a far better windows "Systems Information" function than the Microsoft version: Click Here Click on the green "Download SIW" button for the free version.

I use it all the time. It does not require installation so you can put it on a USB drive and run it on most any Windows PC.

Since you have not mentioned exactly what you have tried, we have no way of knowing what you may have overlooked.

Now this does not solve the issue of why she cannot "raise" (I assume you mean run or execute) the Windows Systems Information function. Here is the location of the MS version on my XP Pro system: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe

You might have the person do a search on the file "msinfo32.exe ".

The same thing happened to me over five years ago. Ended up being a corrupt index.dat file.

Helped someone with the same problem here.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=49060&highlight=Flatiron2

Tell her to follow this path>
    C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\OfflineCache
right click on the index.dat file > Open > Select the program from a list>
un-check Always use the selected program etc > highlight Notepad > Ok

If it doesn't look similar to this Screenshot

    then that's probably your problem..

If you need that index.dat file, PM me, I still have a copy of it.

    System Information:

Go To Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
System Information, Go To File > Save (not Export)
give it a name > Safe to Desktop (or as required)
