    Hi All
Nice to join an enlightened family.Firstly I really hope that i am not breaking any rules by posting here,if I am please let me know.I am using the excuse that I am a newbie.I am posting because my problem is pretty much identical to one I read on this site regarding WMM,except the poster was using Win XP.My operating system is Win7 and i am using Win Movie Maker 6.My problem is i cannot open any of the transitions or effects. When i click on a transition or effect i get the following message, "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared \Sample 3 .JPG" could not be found. What i want to know is what files etc. are missing to cause the problem.Incidentally i am trying to create a slide show of still photos, there are no video clips involved.Your help with this matter would be gratefully appreciated.Thank You in advance.

C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared \Sample 3 .JPG is the file that is missing. The version of movie maker you are using is for Windows Vista. Windows 7 uses Windows Live Essentials movie maker. You are bound to have some problems with version 6 on Windows 7.

That said, if it does not yet exist, create a folder in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker called Shared. Grab the Sample3.JPG from another computer and put it in that folder. (or search your comp for that file)

    edit:
I extracted the sample image files from the version 6 installer and you can download them here:

    Cannot open Transitions and Effects

    Hi TonyT
My sincere thanks for your rapid reply,it is very professional of you.with regard to your reply I clicked on the link but got a warning message from McAfee telling me it was unsafe, and, could contain viruses malware etc.sorry to have to report stuff like that.having said all that maybe you could tell me the most likely place(drive, file, folder, etc.) to start searching on my computer.

    Many thanks again

That link seems to be ok. I just performed a download and scanned the download with Norton and if was declared safe. If you do not feel comfortable than don't download or install. I hope this helps you.
