My computer runs on Windows XP Sp2 and uses Outlook Express 6. Loaded is the application "Microsoft Powerpoint Slide Show ". If I click on a .pps type file in Windows Explorer, that file opens and runs perfectly in the "Slide Show" program [that is, the application].
But if I receive an email in OE6 having an an attachment with a file name having the .pps extension, that file will NOT open. Rather, when I click on the attachment, and click "open ", a FIRST screen comes up saying: "Do you want to open this file?" This screen shows the filename and also has a line saying "Opens with Microsoft Powerpoint Slide Show ". So----I next click "Yes" ---to proceed to open the file.
Next, a SECOND screen comes up saying
"This file does not have a program associated
with it for performing this action. Create an
association in the Folder Options of control panel. "
I have done that! For a .pps extension, I have seen that the program for that is INDEED the "Microsoft Powerpoint Slide Show "
But the attachments of this kind STILL will not open.
Can you help me cure this nagging problem?
    -----------Thanks! Lee Mitchell
NOTE: If I save the attachment to a some folder in my Windows Explorer, it WILL OPEN from there. But that is a long way around the barn, and a pain in the neck.

    THANKS for help; it worked

You guys are just great. I followed thru the link you gave me, and it CURED the problem! The link was for the problem when running on Vista, but it gave me a second link to use with a computer running on XP. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

BTW, I can't get an OE email attachment-- which is an .wmv file-- to open correctly in Windows Media Player. Clicking the attachment to open it causes the WindowsMediaPlayer to open, but it just shows a blank screen and the attachment video does not run. Any easy cure?
