Typically, links open in a browser, and to be precise in the default browser.
Is this true of any link? Are they unopenable even if copied and pasted in the address bar of the browser (any browser), and then opened.
I have had problems, at times, when the links were not correct. They should have a different color, and a hand should show up when a mouseover is applied.

    lgbest ...

I had the same problem once upon a time, and this worked for me ...
    1. If FF won't open from links in TB messages, check the Registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\http\shell\open\command
If there is no DEFAULT string, create one: <path to>\firefox.exe -url "%1 "

    2. If FF thinks it's the default browser, but still won't open from TB links,
Start > Run type: <path to>\firefox.exe -silent -nosplash -setDefaultBrowser
    3. If the FF Profile Manager opens, delete the applicable profile and create a new one using the same profile folder.
In both #1 and #2, <path to> is the full path to firefox.exe (the full path may not be required in #2; it is on my system, as my firefox.exe is not in the default location).

Rather than having to laboriously type out any full path, I suggest installing a handy little freebie called PathCopyEx. It will place a selection, "Copy Path to Clipboard ", on context menus, so that whenever you right-click on any file or folder and select it, the full path will be copied. Then, all you have to do is paste it wherever you need it.

    HTH.

Thanks Jim. Rather than mess with the Registry would it be easier to reinstall Firefox?

    Hi lg,

As it happens, links in TB messages open in FF just fine for me, yet my Registry doesn't contain the string I referred to in #1 in my previous message (go figure) nor, when I open about:config, are there any references to any of the three network.protocol-handler.app listings mentioned on the tron.prog site that broni referred you to.

I know you don't want to mess with the Registry, but you'll need to if you want to be assured of a completely clean reinstallation of FF.
    1. Uninstall FF.

    2. Use a program like RegSeeker to remove all references to Firefox from the Registry. It doesn't require installation, but will run from wherever you unzip it.
    a. Click on "Find in Registry" (top selection on the sidebar menu) and type firefox in the search window.

    b. When the search is complete click on the "Select" checkmark at the bottom of the window. From the menu that opens, click on "Select All ", which will highlight all entries.

    c. Click on the "Action" icon (to the right of the "Select" checkmark) and click on "Delete Selected Items ".
    3. Reinstall FF. I suggest you use the Custom installation, rather than the Standard method, as it gives you MUCH greater control over the installation process.

    broni ...

Did you read what I wrote in my reply #7?
"links in TB messages open in FF just fine for me [yet] when I open about:config, [there are no] references to any of the three network.protocol-handler.app listings mentioned on the tron.prog site that broni referred you to. "
    Apparently, lg's problem lies elsewhere.

    broni ...

    No harm, no foul.

I notice that lg is online right now, but he probably doesn't know what the devil to make of all this.:)

Ooops, myself ... maybe I was looking at your online symbol.

Hi guys - thanks for your help. I resolved the situation by uninstalling then reinstalling FF latest edition. Now the links open from TBird.
