I am unable to open any links that are in my word documents in newly installed Windows 10. Was not a problem in Windows 7.
    Error message says:
"This operation had been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Contact the system administrator."
I am the administrator and this is my private computer. My default browser is Firefox.

That option now extends to Microsoft Outlook as well.

Yes has been installed on PC prior to win 10 install. Word 2003 (office 2003). Links worked for a while after I installed Win 10, but then all of a sudden do not. I originally could not set default browser to Firefox and when default browser was Edge it worked. Once I installed Firefox and made it the default browser this problem started. Does Microsoft now require we only default to its browsers??
Are there some sort of permission I have to give all my programs so that they work with links?
Never had a problem in Win 7. I did also make some, but not all, other changes to Cortana following suggestions by Evan Omo on how to make win10 behave like win 7

I have the same version of Office that you do and FF is my default browser. Try a repair of Word. Under help, detect and repair.

The Word detect and repair said it did everything ok so don't think I will try to use the cd.

I just did a system restore to yesterday prior to making system changes as described above. Edge is now again the default browser and Outlook and Word links open up in Edge. So problem is either, in my case, Firefox as the default browser or one of the PC settings. Not sure which.
Only way to determine if it was the setting is to try one at a time . I may or may not do this in the next few days.
I also found this on the Microsoft web site. Which implies it is a browser problem, which makes no sense since yours works.

Please respond to this statement . I am testing if I can get the email notices from Winodws BBS when an answer to my question is posted. That is a problem I have been having and want to see if I can now receive them. Thank you.

Pete thank You. That worked. What I did was:
I added a filter to my yahoo program to always send emails from WindowsBBS <mailer@windowsbbs.com> to my inbox. that appeared to work this last time. I have no other filters that could cause windows BBS to be blocked so it is my opinion that for whatever reason Yahoo was not letting any emails from the mailer site through.

I have now updated my system to Office 2007. In Word 2007 I am unable to see my previous files list. I have the option of number of files to see set at 17. I should be able to see at least one file listed as I have already saved one file. I cannto find anywhere on the ribbon how to see previous files .

A long tome since I ran Office 2007 - using Office 2010 and can't remember how 2007 looked, but this should work ....

Click the "File" tab at the top of the Microsoft Word window (above the ribbon) and click on Recent in the side menu. Recent documents should be listed - double click on any one to open it.

As I mentioned I have not used Office 2007 for many years, but from Google I found a possible answer ....

Click on the large round button in the top LH corner of the window.

yes that works, I had moved the contents of that box to below the ribbon. The open file, when it has been moved, only takes you to documents where files are kept. The open (which is presumably the same ) that shows in the box at the top does show the recent file list. . On to my next Windows 10 problem. Next time I'll try to google it myself. i usually do try that, but sometimes too much stuff shows up.
    Thanks
