I have a xp64 machine that is on our windows 2008 SBS network. I installed a new xp machine on our domain and then I was in the process of setting the old machine for other users. I wrongly changed the name of the computer and then used a flash drive to have the old machine rejoin the domain as it was not showing under the old name, and was not showing up on the network.
Now I cannot log onto the computer may it be on the domain or on the local machine. It tells me that windows cannot connect to the domain, either becauase the domain controller is down or unavailable or because the computer account was not found. Try later or contact administrator. I want to go reset my settings but I cannot log on past the logon window.
    Any help would be helpful
    Thanks
    MH

Can you conform that you cannot connect via the local Administrator account? If so it may be very difficult to fix this.

I'd recommend you join the PC to workgroup - that will clear its local domain data. Then check active directory and DNS to make sure that the references to this computer (both old and new) have been removed. Also check WINS if you are running it. Then join the computer to the domain.

I cannot get past the Logon screen. I have tried to stick in the XP disc to possibly repair the install, but it asks for an admin password here also. I have every password this network has and none of them work. I wonder if I need to start with a dirty install of windows to get past this.

At the login screen check the drop down below the password line and see if there are multiple choices.
