    Hi Folks,

Apologies for the long post, just wanted to note what actions I've taken so far.

I cannot do a factory recovery on my computer, because I'm missing the file "C:\cwsdpmi.swp ".

My Medion MD 8383 cought a virus. As it damaged much of the material on my C: drive, I had to format the C: Partition. Did a fresh install of windows. The computer has three partitions. E: has a factory recovery back up on it, and D: has some driver files.

I have two CD's (or dvds) with my system, the Win XP SP2 disc, and an Application recovery disc. When I place the "Application disk" in as directed by the Manual, I first get a set of options, 1. perform factory recovery, 2. Check disks etc ".

When I choose 1. perform factory install, I get a line message at the top, "Cannot locate C:\cwsdpmi.swp ", (something to that effect, it flashes very fast, I mainly wanted to get the name of the file, which I know is correct.)

I then get a purple screen giving me a list of languages to choose from. After choosing english, I then get a red box stating that the recovery files have been removed or deleted.

I don't understand this, as all the factory files are still on my E: drive. (Factory pqi, factory.002, factory.003 etc up to 007.

Do I need a restoration program? As i Checked the files, to see if there was an executable trigger files, I noticed they were "Power Quest" logos in some of the graphic files in the recovery directory.

I placed "http://www.powerquest.com" into my yahoo, which for some reason took me straight to Symantec. Does anyone know about powerquest? have they gone bankrupt?

I got a horrible feeling I may have lost the recovery program. Something equivalent to Symantec Ghost.

All of the systems drivers for the video card, modem, and other bits and pieces are tied up inside the factory install. Windows has all the incorrect drivers. I tried doing several driver scans, and driver installs from the Win XP SP2 pack I got with the computer, but windows does not pick them up. If I manually do a driver install, the Win XP version is incorrect, and the device does not function.

I googled the file name with my computer brands name, only to get some german pages, or possibly spanish.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Just had a brain-wave,

I'm opening notepad, and then saving it as cwsdpmi.swp in the C: drive, as an empty document.

before i do this, does anyone know what language .swp files are writtin in,

    ANSI
    Unicode
    Unicode (big endian)
    UTF 8

I'm hoping I might be able to trick my PC into jumping into recovery mode, by making a fake cwsdpmi.swp file.

    Thanks
