I must be losing it, I cannot find the Content.IE5 folder.
I go C;/ doc &settings / user name / local settings / temp int files , and only come up with 7 files total of 41kb. But if I look at the properties of temp internet files, it shows 9 folders with a total of 12.0 mb. Attributes are set to archive, with no hidden folders. So where are these 9 folders hiding in Content.IE5. Has anybody got any ideas please.

Go to My Computer and double click on your C:\ drive. If you don't have the Address bar showing in Explorer right click the Toolbar and place a check next to Address bar so it shows. Place the following in the box with your user name inserted in the correct location and press the Enter key. The IE5 folder should then appear.

    C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

If you log into a 2nd profile on your computer you can "see" them on the other profile (assuming you have access rights on that profile).

Whiskeyman's suggestion should work. More easy to just browse to your Temporary Internet Files in Windows Explorer, and then just copy/paste \Content.IE5 in the address bar.

Thanks guys, that did the trick. I was able to free up another 9 meg of disk space. Every meg counts. Have a good day.

I created shortcuts to that folder plus TIF on my desktop. It makes it much easier to do a quick check and deletion of unwanted files.

GRAHAM WESTON--I use a shortcut directly to Content.IE5
    %windir%\Explorer.exe /e, "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 "
    Include " as shown.
And then I click on the individual alphanumeric file in the left panel to open it.
There was a Windows Update two months ago that produced a warning message if you tried to access Content.IE or the subfolders directly. It could just be clicked off and access was granted, but it was a nuisance.
Maybe that has been corrected in the latest Updates if you are not seeing the message. I still see it, and I have all the latest Updates.
There was a thread on this
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=56755&highlight=Content.IE5
which however is very long winded. Many of the posts in the early and mid-30 are not too pertinent.

BTW--The true alphanumeric files come in groups of four. The extra ones are desktop.ini and Index.dat. If you use IE Tools|Internet Options|General tab|Delete Files you will clean out the alphanumeric files, but much of index.dat will remain. It can grow to substantial size. I use System Security Suite
    http://www.igorshpak.net/
to clean out my TIF, Content.IE5 and index.dat all at once. (I check "Temporary Files" under Internet Explorer.)

I still get the warning when opening my TIF and IE5 shortcut folders on my fully updated XP setup.

Whiskeyman--Thanks for confirming what I see.
Try the shortcut mentioned, and remember to open the alphanumeric files from left panel.
