I downloaded Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3, English version and the icon appeared on my desktop. I double clicked it to install the program but got an error window entitled "Windows Installer" and the text: "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it ". How can I proceed to install the program?

I tried the download and got the same results as you did. There's an outside chance that if you have SP2 you don't need this update. That's why I tried the download, I remember that the .Net update was always listed for me as being recommended (I always declined) but after SP2 was installed, it doesn't list it anymore.

Evidently MS has a problem with this package since I went so far as to download and install MS .NET Framework 1.1 to see if that would help this SP3 package work. No luck except that I added another 120 megs of bloat to my system. I'll have to us good ol' GoBack and get rid of it. "Less filling - tastes great." I always liked that motto. :) Beer commercial, I think.

    Cannot install Mircrosoft program

Thanks to Surferdude2 & Johanna for your replies! Very interesting and informative. OK, I tried the URL that Johanna mentioned and was apparently able to download it (pretty large). I then went to "Windows Update" which showed updates available for Net Framework 1.0 & 1.1(also large!). I clicked on the download/install and ended up with 1.0 "failed" but 1.1 "installed" (??) Now that I seem to have Net Framework 1.1.4322 what benefit is there? Maybe it's not worth the disc space and I should get rid of it?

    Condoor,
I guess it depends what you plan to use it for. I need it to run a certain software I've grown fond of. If disk space is a problem, and you aren't planning a specific purpose for Net Framework, then dump it.

The reason 1 failed is that 1.1 is more current?

Let us know how you decide!

    Johanna,

Thanks for your latest response. I can't think of a specific requirment so I'll probably follow your advice and "dump it "! :)
