My balky computer (described elsewhere) has me trying everything to figure out what the problem is. Other threads suggest using Windows Memory Diagnostic to check out the memory.

I have burned several CDs, as instructed on the Microsoft Webpage, but have not been able to run the diagnostic. I get put into Caldera DR-DOS, and get a prompt that says "[DR-DOS] A:\> From there, I cannot seem to get anywhere.

What am I doing wrong? Was my CD created incorrectly?

Do you not have a floppy drive - WMD fits on a floppy.

No, I never bought a floppy drive. Four computers and no floppy drive. Never needed one before.

    Daanii,

Here is a very good memory tester that you can boot to from a CD. Download the 'iso' file, then burn it to CD. Memtest86+

Thanks for the link to the other memory tester. I downloaded it and burned it onto CD. But I have the same problem as I did with Windows Memory Diagnotic. Instead of running the program, I get put into DR-DOS.

So something is wrong with the way I am burning the CDs. I use Nero Express, that came with my DVD CD burner. Or maybe the problem is that I have Partition Magic installed, which may be affecting the booting process. Should work, though, since I can boot to my Windows XP disk.

I'll look into this more on the Internet.

There's a button in Nero Express that will allow you to switch to Nero Burning ROM. Then from the menu, choose recorder > Burn Image.

Thanks for the info. I did finally get the memory diagnostic to run. So that problem is solved.

But my memory checked out okay. Hard to complain about that, but that is one possible problem checked off. Still have no idea what my problem is.
