I recently re-loaded XP in one of my computers. Now, when I put regedit into "Run ", the window flashes, then disappears. I can use "Run" for other functions. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Try using regedt32.exe or even the entire path C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regedt32.exe for the RUN command line.

About 10 mintes ago, it started working again. I have no idea why. I have had a couple of slow start-ups because of dial-up software that is interfering when it isn't supposed to be, but nothing else unusual has happened with that computer.

It sounds like it may be due to a change being made to the PATH statement when you reloaded. It may have resolved itself but you should check your PATH statement to be sure all your desired destinations are included.

    Surferdude2 - just a quick FYI note.

In NT4/2K, regedt32 was a newer version of the registry editor than regedit. With XP, the exe is regedit and using regedt32 simply makes a call to regedit.

Sort of a shame I think since there were some behaviors in the older regedit I liked better than the 'new & improved' version. Ah well. Progress.

Indeed Newt, it's interesting how MS covers the bases on some things. It seems that the regedt32.exe file found in XP at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regedt32.exe merely redirects the command to C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe.

That said most folks could delete the regedt32.exe file and never miss it. Probably there to accommodate those who were exposed to NT4/2k like you. I hopped over those versions so I'll do that bit of housecleaning just for my own satisfaction.

The fact that the two files are in different directories is why I suggested using the path least taken. (All due apologies to R. Frost)

MS claims the new version of regedit.exe found in XP contains all the features of both past registry editors. Could be...could be...

    Best regards
