My computer was reformated from the original installation disk, and when I had the active x problems, I tried to restore to a new date several times and it would not take.

Is this a typical response when a reformat is done? SHould I need to restore in the future-I wonder is there is a fix? I have Win XP operating system, Dell Dimension 8300 with updated RAM to 2 GBs. I filled out my specs but I do not see them.
    :)

When a disk is formatted ALL data is removed, including restore points. You cannot restore your system to a date prior to formatting as the data no longer exists.
You missed out the final step .....

    Pete-

There were restore points listed and they were after my harddrive was reformatted by only a few days so shouldn't that have worked? The new data was there from the reformatting.

In other words, should'nt you be able to restore to a date after the reformatting?

Why are you wanting to restore already? System Restore is not a cure all. It only restores certain things. What kine of problem are you having now?

I misunderstod your first post - in theory you should be able to restore from a restore point made after formatting, but MrBill's point is very valid,

When attempting a restore do you get any error messages?

I am not having any problems now, however when I could not fix the active x, I wanted to restore it to two days prior to the problem, and from what I understood it restores the system the way it was at that date.

The error message is "Computer could not be restored to (date) ".

I tried several dates and none took, and even in safe mode.

I just wanted an explanation in case I have to do one in the future, or why didnt it work?
