I am working as a volunteer in a small community office. They have a CD writer that was never installed on a machine they have so I figured I would plug it in. The CD writer is a Plextor Plexwriter 16/10/40A. The machine is running Windows 98 SE. The machine has one user and one password. It is not on a network. Everything seems to working fine until I try to copy a file to the CD Writer. I get an error message saying Cannot Copy File; Access is Denied. I'm sure this has something to do with System Administrator stuff. As I was searching for a solution, I came across a message that says I can change settings by running something called DCOMCNFG from the Run box. I tried this and nothing happened. When I went searching for DCOMCNFG I couldn't find it. It's been so long since I have used Win98 I cannot remember how to change security settings and other stuff that will allow me to copy files to the CD. Any suggestions? I know I've done something like this years ago, but I cannot remember how to do it. Thanks.

Are you using a much needed CD Burnging software like InCD or just trying to paste to the cd?

Just trying to copy a file from My Documents to the CD. I have used "Copy" "Paste" and all the usual stuff. The computer does not have easy cd writer or anything like that, just the plextor manager 2000 software. I went in and changed all the settings for the drives (A,C,D, & E) to sharing, read-write for all users. Now I'm down to the CD being labled, possibly, as write-protected. It may be that Plextor does not like the kind of disk i'm using (Imation) or something as simple as that. What do you think? Thanks.

I am not familiar with Plextor Manager 2000, I have Nero.
It has this optional program with it called InCD, where you copy/paste with Windows Explorer. The idea is to use the CD like any other drive.
However, this requires the use of a CDRW, a CDR is refused. Perhaps this is what is required?
