  Hi all. I have a brand new Siemens 4100 modem. I have SBC DSL. I actually bought this because I thought my modem was the problem. It looks like it's working fine (all the right lights are lit), but my computer does not detect my modem or my modem IP address. In my phone and modem folder in the control panel there is no modem in there. I can force the address in my local connection and then hit connect in my SBC icon and then go to my sign in box and get connected this way but it's not the right way. Also when I do it this way if I shut down I loose the connection and have to go to network connections and configure everything again. My network adaptor (CNet Pro works fine). Any suggestions or help? Thanks in advance.

hoopville--With a cable modem, you have to register the modem with the ISP before it will work. I do not know if DSL modems require the same.
In any event, I would call the DSL provider since I gather you are paying for service you are/were not getting (with the old modem, too). It is also possible that the Siemens modem is not compatible with the DSL provider's service, though I doubt that.

With my experience working with many DSLs, you have to go onto the modem's setup page. For example, if you go to IE and get the "page cannot be displayed" message, go to the address bar and type: 192.168.0.1 for a Siemens modem. This will take you to the setup page for your modem and that's where you would enter your id and password that has already been setup for your account with the ISP.

If you use a router, say Linksys, more information has to be setup for DSL service.

Cable modems are MUCH easier to deal with, if it's feasible!!!!
