    My wife's office runs a database application from a file server. Normally we access this file on the file server (C:\VHMWin\VHMWin.exe) by mapping a network drive (we name it F: ) to the root of the file server, then making a shortcut to the .exe mentioned above.

    Dragging the file from the server to the workstation desktop (to create a shortcut) results in a corrupted win.ini file on the workstation, so I make this the new win.ini:

    [VHM]
    PATH=F:\VHMWin\VHMWin.exe
    SUNPOINT=F:\Sunpoint (this is needed by the program also - but I don't know why)

    When I double click the shortcut on the workstation - I cannot connect and get database errors. I've even mirrored the accounts on all of the systems (It's actually a workgroup named "WORKGROUP ")

    I've verified all of the Network settings, have tried this with wired and wireless systems with no success. I've copied the settings from the working workstations to the non-working ones (still no success), have disabled all the firewall/security apps with now success.

    Any suggestions? The 2 systems involved are laptops - all previous systems were desktops. The laptops connect wired and wirelessly to the web without any problems.

    ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! :confused:

    My guess is you are using software from Sunpoint. Other than having a very annoying website (listening to dogs barking is not my idea of a pleasurable browsing experience), if the date of the latest release is anything to go by, they haven't worked on it since 2002. You could try contacting them for support, but my guess is you've already tried that and got no where.

    Therefore, you need a workround for a bit of software that very few people are still using or know anything about.

    I'd start by looking at where the software is working. Are there any systems where the shortcut system is working? It could be that you've missed something : for example the start in location.

    Can you access the software on the server? That is directly on the PC where the software is installed. If so, you may be better off trying a using remote desktop software to give you access to the application on the server desktop. You could use VNC is you only need single user remote access. Otherwise your best bet may be terminal server software.
