    Hello,

I have a new installation of SBS 2003 which is having some difficulties connecting to the client computers via Terminal Services or through the Remote Web Workplace.

I have no problem with connecting to the server remotely from inside and outside the LAN (even from the client pc to which I cannot connect from the server). I receive the following error message when trying to connect to the client pc from the server through TS:

I have the NIC on the client pc using the server IP for DNS and I have already setup the client pc to accept remote connections from my user account as well as the administrator account. When I attempt to ping the IP address of the client computer from the server, it fails.

My network is setup as follows:

Internet --> IP Gateway (modem with static external IP) --> Netgear Wireless Router (running DHCP) --> Dell PowerConnect Switch --> LAN (Server + Domain Client PCs + Non-domain PCs)

I have the Netgear router forwarding the necessary ports for all services to the server (25, 443, 444, 4125, 3389, 1723). The server is using a single NIC for both WAN and LAN. I had this same setup working in a different office previously, but it has been a while since I was doing the admin for this server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there is any relevant info I forgot to provide.

Am I missing something obvious here?

    Thanks,

    Rob

Okay, so it seems that the Windows Firewall on the client PC was the problem. Remote Desktop (port 3389) needed to be allowed through the firewall. I had checked this previously and the client pc said the firewall was being control by group policy or something similar. Regardless, now I can connect to the client pc from the server on the network.

However, I believe I still have a lingering DNS issue as I am still unable to ping the client pc by IP address or computer name. This means that I cannot push the anti-virus software from the server to the pc and may cause other future problems. Anyone have any suggestions?
