I have an odd problem. A computer is a member of an AD domain. When I log in as an administrator and look at the program associated with a PDF file type, it shows Adobe Reader which is correct. However, if I log in as a power user, it shows that file type is associated with Word. The problem is that the buttons to change that association are greyed out. Why does this particular user have Word as the default and how do I correct it? TIA.

What happens when you try to open a pdf file when logged in as the power user?

Right click on a pdf file. Choose Open With -> Choose Program.. Select Adobe Reader & Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file ". Press ok.

Thanks. That did it. So my question now is why was I able to change it there but not with the control panel or explorer tools?

I should note that I am not 100% sure this worked yet. It works with actual PDF files but there is a application that opens PDF files internally that I have not retried yet (which is what started this thread).

Well nobody is quite sure. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Maybe some registry problem ?
