When I try to change my desktop icon spacing, it goes through the motions of changing by asking me to wait, but it does not change. I have tried changing the vertical default setting of 43 both up and down and the spacing stays the same.

I have installed the latest graphics drivers and no effect. I have tried both XP and Classic style and still it will not change the spacing.

I used this feature in XP Home that came in this computer and it worked. Now that I have a clean install of XP Pro it does not work.

I tried unchecking 'Align to Grid' and it made no difference.

Can someone tell me how to get this spacing to change?

On right click>arrange make sure lock web items is unchecked. On properties>desktop tab>customize>web tab make sure lock desktop items is unchecked.

    Thanks Dave,

    Both items were already unchecked.

It seems like I have seen somewhere else a lock desktop option, but I have been unable to find it. It may have been on my previous computer with Win98se.

I failed to mention that when I go through the process of changing my icon spacing, it will ask me to 'Please Wait' and then the icons will refresh but they do not move.

After setting the spacing size, applying and oking out, go back and select align to grid, without auto arrange.

    Dave

You are the man with the answer.

I unchecked the align to grid and changed the spacing and then rechecked the align to grid and they moved.

I tried again by leaving the align to grid checked and changed the spacing. They did not move until I unchecked the align to grid and rechecked it.

This was not a major issue but I knew it should work. In all my trying to get this to work I never did hit that combination. When it would not move, I would immediately change it back to the default setting.

    Thank You for your help.
