Try reinstalling the drivers for your video card - it sounds as if you have only the default Windows driver loaded.

    Pete,
Could you give instructions on how this is done - experience with drivers is very limited.
    Wouldn't know where to start!
    Thanks

With pleasure :), but please bear in mind that this is generic guidance as the various flavours of Windows display different dialogue boxes and all manufacturer's instructions are not the same.

A Rough Guide to Re-installing/Updating Video Drivers

Step 1 "“ Identify your video card

If you don’t know which video card is installed in your PC go to Device Manager > Display Adaptors and click on the "˜+’ sign to reveal details of your card.

    Or

Download Aida32 and go Display > Windows Video

    Or

Check out any specification/documentation which came with your PC.

Step 2 "“ Locate the Drivers

Check out the CD’s which may have come with your PC for a video driver disk "“ look for one labelled ATI, Matrox, Nvidia, etc.

    Or

If you do not have a video driver disk log on to the manufacturer’s web site and download the latest drivers for your OS. While there note any specific instructions for re-installing/updating the drivers.

Step 3 "“ Uninstall the existing drivers

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any software associated with your video card. This may not be necessary for all makes of card "“ it is for Matrox, but do it anyway "“ and follow any instructions given on the download site.

    And

Go to Device Manager and remove the Display Adaptor.

    Reboot

Step 4 "“ Install the original/updated video drivers

    Installing the Original Video Drivers

The way in which this is done and the screen prompts which appear depend on which OS the PC is running and it is difficult to be specific here.

On reboot Windows will detect the video card and display the "˜Add New Hardware Wizard’

If you have a manufacturer’s install CD it will most likely autorun so click Cancel and insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and follow the on screen prompts.

If the CD does not autorun you have two options, either "¦..

Open the contents of the CD in Windows Explorer and browse to SETUP.exe and, if it exists, double click on it to initiate the set up program

    Or

Reboot and when the "˜Add New Hardware Wizard’ appears insert the CD and follow the prompts to point Windows to the CD "“ it may be necessary to Browse to a Driver folder for your OS.

    Updating the Video Drivers

If you are updating the video drivers it is likely that you downloaded an exe file "“ browse to the location of the file and double click on it and follow the on screen instructions.
