I had to use a product recovery disc on a 4 year old IBM aptiva and it wiped out all programs, which I was aware of. But I did not think it would remove an adaptec cd creator etc, which was original equipment. Now I cannot use a cd drive to back up or restore files. I have 2 drives, one is a Sony CD-RW CRX100E and the other is a Hitachi DVD-Rom GD 2500. Only one of them has the abiliity to write to a CD-RW. Don't know what to do next. Neither drive shows any files on a CD-RW that has files.

Have a look at the recovery disk and see if it's on there someplace. If so, you can probably install it from there. You could also try booting from the disc and see it gives you the option to install other apps. Did the computer come with any other discs? If so, have a look at them and see if it's on one of them. I would guess that if you bought the computer with it on it, you'll also have the necessary disc to reinstall it. If not, you could give them a call and see what they say. The only other thing I can think of would be to purchase the program. If you can't find it on your discs, you can view the data on your cdrw discs by downloading and installing Roxio's UDF reader . This would at least enable you to get at your data.
