    Hi all,

My internets fine, its my friends whose doesnt work and im speaking to them by phone so please be patient if I cannot supply you with all the details about whats going on.

My mate just upgraded to Talk Talk Broadband and tried to set it up. They rang technical support because they couldnt get their wired modem working so they now have about 3 different Talk Talk settings in Network Connections. They also have a few VPNs set up.

They are now trying to change modem to a belkin F5D7630-4A with a built in Wireless Router. The modem was configured sucessfully at one point but they can no longer get back into the main configuration page.

They can connect to the router by the wireless usb and Ethernet cable. They can also ping the router through DOS and strangely enough they can also ping google.co.uk from DOS and get its IP address. This proves the modem is connected to the internet and that they are connected to the modem.

However they can still not seem to use the internet. Internet Explorer and Firefox do not show any pages and they also dont allow connections to http://192.168.2.1 which is the router configuration page. I have no idea whats going on with it.

I assume that somehow all settings are trying to use the old modem but have no idea how to stop that.

They are on Windows XP Home

    Thanks for any help

    Edit:

More information for you. Ive coded my own linux server on my home comp and i just got my mate to telnet to it and it worked successfully. However when i got them to go to the following url

    x.x.x.x:1981

in Internet Explorer which is another way to connect to my server, my server shown no attemps were being made to connect.

Also my mate cannot log into MSN so its not just the browsers.

    Thanks

Please let your friend provide ipconfig/all info.

    And do the test:

in DOS command, type "telnet google.co.uk 80" to see what happens.

    This part sounds good.

As to the ipconfig/all info. it looks like your friend used both wired and wireless connection to the router.

Can you let your friend disable one of them and try again. It might not help, but no hurt to try and see what happens.

    hi,

Unfortunately the two connections cannot be disabled as it gives this error:

"not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug-and-play, or it may have been initiated by another user or system account. "

So they took the wireless adapter out and tried just using the ethernet. Still doesnt work :(

If they have another computer, try this

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=55771

download the program and copy it to the "problematic" computer.

After setup , go to IE, tools->disagnose connection problems.

Because telnet .... 80 worked, I think the culprit should be resided in IE and firefox.
