Cannot access Safe mode

    Hope you can help me here Guys, please. As my pc is getting a bit slower, I have tried to boot up in safemode, in order to use my Anti Malware, Anti Trojans , etc. However I cannot access safemode at all. On my pc I normally use the f8 key for safemode. I have been having problems with my internet connections as well, so I tried to go into Local area connections to use the repair part of the program . This was unable to access my modem. I am on 10 MB Broaband, Ethernet connection. I am using AVG Pro Anti Vir, and Zone Alarm Firewall Pro.
    Any advice would be appreciatted, thank you.
