I just got my first XP PC a couple of weeks ago. I set up two accounts, one for my wife, and one for me (without passwords). I was trying to set up scheduled tasks like I used to have on my W98 PC. During the process of setting up the first scheduled task I got a message saying that the process might not run because I didn't enter a password. Well, it definitely did not run, so I set a password for my account. Then, when I set up scheduled taskks, I use that password for the task, and it runs OK.

Is there anyway to get scheduled tasks to run without using passwords?

    Thanks.

Scheduled tasks requires a password by default. If you don't have one for your account it won't run (as you found out). You can get around it though. If you're using XP Pro click start>run and type gpedit.msc. In the window that opens go to computer configuration>windows settings>security settings>local policies>security options. Then in the right pane look for "limit local account use of blank passwords to console use only ". It should be the third one down from the top of the list. Double click on it and set it to disabled.

If you have XP Home you can do the same thing by downloading and running Kelly's reg file. Line 67 on the left side. Run Scheduled Tasks w/o PW Home
