Can you identify these devices?

Under my Vista installation, in the device manager, I have two sub-entries under the category of Other Devices. Both are labeled Unknown Device, both have that black exclamation mark with a yellow ball around it. When I doubleclick on the first device, under the general tab, it shows "other, on PCI Bus ". There is no info under the driver or the resource tab, but under details, with the property showing Hardware Ids, it shows ACPI/PNPB006. Under that it lists *PNPB006.
When I click on the second unknown device it shows "on PCI Bus 5, device 6, Function 1 ". Under details it has 4 virtually identical entries that all start with " PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_7003&...... Each of the 4 lines has something different after the _7003&, too lengthy to include and probably not of much help in troubleshooting.
This shows up under my Vista installation and is there because no drivers were installed for whatever these two devices are.
If I boot into WinXP on this same computer, there are no other or unknown devices shown.
The motherboard is an ASUS A8N-E. The only PCI device I have is an Audigy 2ZS soundcard.
Can anyone tell me what these devices are, so that I might pursue getting drivers for them? I did download and install the driver package from Creative Labs for this card, specifying VISTA. I did the same for the installation under XP.

Go into your BIOS and turn off the midi and the gameport associated with onboard sound. Since you've got that creative sound card in there, you won't be using the onboard stuff - disable it in the BIOS. Let us know how that works out for you.

Its actually the NVIDIA® nForce™ MIDI UART drivers you are having a problem with and you want to disable the problem devices (which you are not using because of your Creative card) as described above. However, if others are having this problem, a quick search indicates that one can use the XP 6.86 drivers for this in Vista. Apparently, there is a problem with these NVidia drivers written for Vista.

Disabling the midi and gameport addresses got rid of one of the two unknown devices. The one that is identified as PCI BUS 5, Device 6, Function 1 is still there. You mention the 6.86 drivers written for XP. Which category of driver is that? All I've ever downloaded from NVIDIA is the graphics card driver for the GeForce. I think NVIDIA also makes the motherboard drivers for this nForce Ultra 4 . Is thta what you're referring to?
    Thanks again.

Yes and if you haven't installed them, you need to. You will also get an option as it relates to the IDE drivers and you can stay with the Microsoft drivers or go with the NVidia. I haven't seen much difference between the two but Nvidia will reference a potential bottleneck in trying to convince you to use theirs. Regardless, that just one part of the NForce driver package.

I took a look at NVIDIA's download option, and under platform/nforce drivers, I don't see anything for nforce4 Ultra. I still have the owner's manual for my Asus board, and it doesn't elaborate beyond saying that it has the nforce4 ultra chipset. Which of the options on Nvidia's website would you choose?
I went to ASUS' website, and all they reference is CK804 chipset drivers for the A8N-E board, nothing for VISTA, and the most recent is from November 2005 for WinXP. None of the options on NVIDIA's site say anything about the CK804 chipset either. Thanks again.

    Hi MarkP62,
It is a little confusing, the download list has "nForce 4 ....Ultra Intel ", whereas Skaler2K has an AMD motherboard. I searched around for a while and found that even the people on the nVidia forum where somewhat confused.

The drivers listed as "Ultra" should be the correct ones, I found that the ck804 chipset can be either AMD or Intel based.

As to your remaining problem device - Vendor ID 1102 is Creative Labs, and Device ID 7003 is the Game Port. I believe that Vista has issues with game ports so you are probably going to have to disable your Creative game port in Vista or find a home baked solution. Perhaps Creative has some suggestions on their website. You can also try using Creative's XP Gameport drivers, but I can't give you a "recommendation" in this regard.

Rehashing the previous NVidia discussion - I've always found their driver update site and menu to be quite user friendly. The unified driver approach sure beats the heck out of what one has to go through to get drivers for some hardware.
