Let's assume we have a computer that will boot from the hard disk only -- only the hard disk and there is no OS on that hard disk.

    Is this possible:
Remove the hard disk and connect it as the only hard disk on another computer. Start the Windows 7 installation and at some point before it is finished, move the hard disk back to its original computer and finish the setup of Windows 7.

Is this possible? If so, at what point during the installation would one move the disk?

If that is not possible, is there another method of using another computer to make the disk bootable, then placing the setup files from the Windows 7 DVD onto that hard disk and then moving the hard disk to its original computer to do the Windows 7 setup?

It may be possible to install Windows 7 complete on the hard drive and then switch the drive to the other computer, but I suspect that method is fraught with difficulties. Easy enough to try though and you will need the chipset drivers for the other computer too..
Netbook with no DVD drive or no facility to boot via USB ??

Take a look at this method of installing from a USB pen drive ......

How to Create a Bootable Windows 7 Installation USB Flash Drive

I have used this method successfully in installing Win 7 on a netbook.

The original reason this question was posted was that the BIOS was password protected. This laptop was purchased used a couple of days ago and I didn't check for a BIOS password until I wanted to return from what I suspect was a pirated copy of Windows 8 that was on it back to the original legal Dell Windows 7.

Anyway, I circumvented the BIOS password using an old method that I really didn't expect to work as that method hasn't worked for me on any modern laptop in years.

    Problem solved.

I set the BIOS to boot from the USB drive, installed Windows 7 64-bit and it is back up and running.

Your link to how to create a bootable setup on USB was very helpful.
