I went into the Task Manager Properties and changed the Customized Notification for the TM icon and several other custom utilities to Always Show which worked fine on my old computer as they then appear in systray all the time.

Whereas the "Current Items" show in the systray, none of the "Past Items" show up inspite of them marked Always Show (is there a way to move an item up to Current Items section?).

I have clicked the Apply, Ok and rebooted several times but no luck.
Any ideas on how to fix?

    thanks

robls99--Regardless of the "Always Show" setting for TaskManager, I would not expect the icon to show in the Notification Area (formerly SysTray) unless TaskManager was running.
Perhaps you had TaskManager set to start at boot on the other PC.

I run XP in Classic mode so the following may not apply to the default Luna ....

Right click Task Bar > Properties > Taskbar > Notification Area and make sure that 'Hide inactive icons' is unchecked.

    Thanks but ....

I have Task Manager running and minimized but still no CPU meter icon in Notification Area even tho says Always show. 2 others in Past Items have same problem.

I unchecked Hide Icons but that doesn't change anything - still no meter.

    Tried rebooting again.

    Anybody else have an idea?

robls99--Ah, I understood the problem to be the reverse--that the icon was not appearing when TaskManager was not running.
The icons that appear in the Notification Area are governed by the settings in Registry's HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\TrayNotification key.
I am almost certain that if you delete PastIconsStream in the right panel and reboot, the icons will be recreated as you use the associated programs. Important to back this key up (Registry|File|Export) to create a .reg file in case you need to restore.
Or to clear both Icon Streams and PastIconStreams
