Someone once told me I could leave my external Passport USB drive plugged in all the time because the drive doesn't run except when I use it as a daily backup.

Now I can feel it running even tho nothing else is on/running.

What's the recommended procedure for leaving it plugged in or not?

    I'm running XP-Pro SP3

Shouldn't be an issue leaving it powered up, my external drive is either connected to this laptop or my PVR virtually 24/7 and I haven't encountered a problem for over 12 months.
