Last night I received a update signal from Microsoft. When I downloaded, my system hung up and I had to reboot. Upon rebooting I had several problems:

    1. I am unable to access any websites. I can see that my browser (IE 5.5) has found the site, but the message says "waiting for response" which never comes.

    2. I have Norton Firewall installed, but on rebooting it appears to have disappeared.

    3. The whole system appears to be running much slower than previously.

My systen is a Pentium 3 operating with Windows ME.

Any suggestions as to how I should proceed.

bobcasey-I can't address your whole problem, but I had the problem of being unable to access any web sites some time ago and my DUN had gotten messed up by some action. Finally fixed by reinstalling Dial Up Networking. (This is just a "what happened to me" post and you might wait for knowlegeable folk-just thought I'd toss this in)

I was able to solve my problem at the Symmantec help area. I had to uninstall Norton Anti-virus and Norton Personal Firewall and then re-install. Everything is back to normal.
