I bagan using Internet Explorer 6.0 and want to move / import many year's worth of Bookmarks, Address Book entries, and E-mails FROM the old NetScape 4.7 and 7.0 Browsers INto the new IE 6.0 Browser.
Operating System is Windows 98/Second Edition.
    Is this possible?

If any of these subjects have been posted before - sorry  - but I HAVE *searched* and not found the threads.

If moving this "stuff" is possible, a Step-by-Step How-To will be appreciated.

Strange as it may sound, NS 4.7 AND 7.0 BOTH peacfully ?? co-exist on the same computer; but I only "want" the Bookmarks from the NS 4.7 version moved to IE 6.0. I would "like" to move e-mails and Address Books from BOTH NS versions into IE 6.0.

    Thanks for your Thoughts! ;)

Hi Phred. I don't have a clue but I'm betting our NetScape gurus will so I'm moving the thread to that section. They tend to avoid the IE section I think.

    Quite possible Phred!

See this page for importing Mail: Importing Netscape 7 Mail to Outlook Express or Outlook

    For the Address Books:

How to Import Messages and Addresses from Netscape Messenger 4.5 and Later

How to Convert the Address Book
Outlook Express expects to find a 4.0x version of the Netscape Address Book when doing the conversion. However, Outlook Express can import an Address Book exported from Netscape Messenger in the LDIF format. To do this:

    1. In Netscape Communicator, on the Communicator menu, click Address Book.
    2. In Address Book, click Export on the File menu.
    3. In Export As, type a name for the exported file.
    4. In the Save As Type box, click LDIF(*.ldif). Select a destination for the file, and then click Save.
    5. Close Netscape Messenger and Communicator.

How to Import Messages and Addresses to Outlook Express
Use the following methods to convert from Netscape Messenger to Outlook.

    Address Conversion

    1. In Outlook Express, on the File menu, click Import, and then click Other Address Book.
    2. In the Address Book Import Tool box, click LDIF - LDAP Date Interchange Format, and then click Import.
    3. Click OK when you receive the Address Book import process has completed prompt.

    EDIT:

Oops! You also asked about Bookmarks, and I left out that information.

To move your Netscape bookmarks into Internet Explorer (IE), you can import them using the IE Import Wizard:

    1. Open Internet Explorer

    2. If you prefer, create a new folder in IE Favorites for imported bookmarks first:
    - a. Open Favorites | Organize Favorites
    - b. Click "Create Folder" button and type in name for folder, and Close

    3. Go to File | Import/Export to open the Import Wizard

    4. Choose Import Favorites, and click Next

    5. Under "Import from a File," click Browse and find your bookmark file here:
    C:program Files\Netscape\Users folder
Double-click your bookmarks.htm file, and click Next

    6. Select the folder where your bookmarks are to reside, and click Next

    7. Click Finish, and your bookmarks will be saved in the folder selected. You may need to restart IE for them to appear.

    THANKS, Ramona; and Newt, too!!!

    W:cool:ZER!!

That's a LOT to read and digest, Ramona!

While reading through your *links*, I stumbled on another
Microsoft Help & Support page >>>
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;152681

    which offered THIS little nugget:
"You can also use the Bookmarks Converter tool to automatically convert Netscape Navigator bookmarks to shortcuts on the Favorites menu in Internet Explorer for Windows 95. The Bookmarks Converter tool is available as a file named Favtool.exe. To download Favtool.exe from the Microsoft Download Center, click the following link:
Download Favtool.exe now from PCWorld >>>
    http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description.asp?fid=6052

Long story short - I tried it - and IT WORKED!! :D

    It's a small (1/2 mB) ".exe" file that just sits in your Download Folder untill you RUN it;
and then remains there (no Desktop shortcut created).
NO "Instructions" provided, but even I managed to figure it out. :p
I did do a bit or preliminary research and prep:
    1) Used IE 6.0 "Favorites" to "add" a folder "NS 47 Bookmarks" to the original 3 folders
    2) Searched and found the NS 4.7 "Bookmark.HTM" file so I learned the "path "
    3) Took a DEEP breath and ran Favtool.exe ...

First was ? Where do you want to PUT them?? and offered choices from IE 6.0 -
including my "newly created" folder! :)
Next was ? Where do you have the Bookmarks stored? - then stepped me
through the HD's files till we arrived at "Bookmark.HTM ".
When the file was selected - off it went!
Stared at a blank window for a minute; but the program finished on its own -
and now I have NS 4.7 Boorkmarks as *working* *clickable* "Favorites "
    in IE 6.0!! :D

    (wheew! :p )

    EDIT to ADD:
In the conversion and move process, Favtool.exe did a bit of a "clean & tidy" operation ~
The progran carefully ALPHABETIZED all the NS Bookmarks, first by "file" name,
and then by sub-files, and finally by individual entries within files.
(It didn' touch the UN-organized chaos it found in the IE Favorites, though.)
    Pretty *neat* lil program!! ;)

    -----------------------------------------------------------

I'll finish "reading up" on the Address Book next ...
I'm a lil bit *fuzzy* on that one still ...

THANKS again, Ramona - YOU *ROCK*!! ;)
