I would like to take IE6 out for a test drive but I don't want to lose IE5.01 just in case I don't "buy" the new one.

Is it possible to download and install IE6 without having it install itself over IE5.01? Can I "hide" IE5.01 somewhere, or disable it, while trying IE6?

As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated. :)

I tried this on my Windows 98 system a couple of years ago and in doing so learned that it depended on what version of IE came preinstalled on your system and whether or not that version was ever unistalled.

For example my 98 system came preinstalled with Version 4.0. I later upgraded to 5.1 and later 5.5, which caused problems with my system. When I uninstalled 5.5 it reverted to 4.0 and I had to download and reinstall 5.1 again.

    :)

AFAIK, there is no Compatability Mode with IE6, only IE5 has the ability to be installed side by side IE4.

    Thanks all.

I've bookmarked the link above as well as one to download IE 5.01 again if I don't like IE 6.

Let the test drive begin. :)

I seem to recall some references to this when ie6 was in beta. I think it was possible if the versions where on different partitions. You may wish to use the search engine of your choose and research this question/problem. I believe it is possible [not advisible]. Sorry for vague answer, but that's all I remember. You'll have to dig up the How-To's.

I think webservers/programers had to come up with a work around because of the need to test pages with various browsers and versions.
