Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit up to date

I've read that having too many fonts can slow down your bootup. I see a lot of fonts with a .fon extension in my FONTS directory. Does XP still use these in 2013 or can I safely delete them and maybe slightly speed up my boot process?

    TIA.

The more important question - are you or any of the programs you use - use the fonts?

You could rename the fonts and see if anything dies/stops working.

I tried moving all my .fon fonts to a folder on my desktop. XP wouldn't boot, so I put them back in my FONTS folder and was able to boot XP again. At least some .fon fonts are required by XP.

I did the moves while running Linux from another partition on my HD.

1st: Why would you want to do this? On a default Windows XP SP3 the 138 .fon fonts take up a whopping 3.33 MB

Now, to answer your question: No, you can't delete .fon fonts 'willy nilly'.

Windows uses designated .fon fonts to display text in menus, title bars, and dialog boxes.
