The partition (C) where my Windows directory lives is almost full. I now cannot download Win SP 2 due to lack of space. I have two hard disks in the machine of which C & D are on one physical drive and E is a separate SCSI drive.

I would like to make C & D into one drive letter C but with out reformatting is this possible? If not what procedure do I have to follow to fix my problem?

I am running Win XP Pro (upgraded from Win NT4) with 512 Mb ram. Pentium 3 600 Mhz processor.

Generally speaking, you'll need a 3rd party program to do that. I recommend Partition Magic. It's user friendly and as safe as you'll find. It isn't free but if you shop around you can get a good deal on it.

There is at least one freeware that you can use but it requires nerves of steel and a real good understanding of the process. I don't recommend it for anyone less than an expert at computers. It's called Ranish Partition Manager.

    Good luck.

    Partition removal

Hi surferdude2 many thanks for your quick reply.

I shall try Partition Magic. I had a look at Ranish Partition Manager FAQ and decided my DOS days are too distant to try it. I do need to keep my data intact.

Looks like a deal on PM here.

The main site page for PM offers a free trial version but I doubt that it's fully functional. You could give it a try to see if you approve of how it works though. I think it's great and have never had a single problem using it.

    Good luck.

I apologise if I'm stating the obvious, but:

Make sure you backup your important data before you start. Copy what you can to E first.

I strongly doubt that will get you a legal version. PM 8.0 for $19.99? Paying to coresole34@hotmail.com ?

PM 8.0 is $69.95 from Symantec

Ya pays yer money and takes yer chance when ordering over the Internet Arie. :)

Given that the price of many softwares is apparently flexible, I would always shop for the best price without looking the gift horse in the mouth. Of course it would be nice if there was a degree of written protection that stated that the seller wasn't doing something untoward but I don't see that happening from any vendors.

There are several other sources that also appear to be legitimate that offer Partition Magic at drastically reduced prices so it appears to be a common practice. For example. A Google search will turn up several more.

Whom do you trust? I'm all for the free enterprise system and letting the market price seek its own level. I suspect at times some vendors have the tacit approval of the licensing company since they are so overt and blatant with their advertising.

I can tell you that I certainly didn't pay $69.95 for my PM and if I had to buy it again, I'd probably get the $19.99 one and never look back. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chance. :)

Yes you can, and nothing makes it easier than Partition Magic. Available from Staples, Best Buy, CompUSA, etc. :)
