I have two computers on my LAN, the desktop, running 64-bit Win7 Pro SP1 and a laptop, running 32-bit Win7 HP SP1. Both computers see each other and share files. No problem there.

When I click on the Network icon in Windows Explorer on either computer, icons for both computers are displayed, and all drives, folders, and files on each computer are accessible.

Because having the desktop drives, folders, and files accessible from the network on the desktop computer is completely redundant (since I'm using that computer), and as the same is true for the laptop, my question is this: is there any way to remove the desktop icon on the network from the desktop computer, and the laptop icon on the network from the laptop?

    lj50 ...

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, no properties are available from those context menus.

Not clicking on the Network icon would be the easiest thing to do;)

AFAIK you cannot remove the icons for the comp you are on. That's because a network share is not the same thing as My Computer. Basically, network shares on the local comp and other comps are just pointers to the actual locations. But opening a network location requires different operating system functions, thus the need for the "duplicates ".

Golly gee, Steve, why didn't I think of that? Although it may have seemed like a frivolous question, it was not. I suspected I probably would receive such a response, but I didn't think it would come from a senior member of the Staff.

Thanks, Tony. I was afraid the answer might involve something along those lines. If I remember correctly, though, such was not the case with XP ... I seem to recall that I was able to get rid of the undesired icons and links. I'll mark the thread as resolved and just hope that someone actually has a solution.

Jim - sorry for offending you.

Keeping in mind most people have a sense of humor including myself, I had my "Occam's razor" hat on this morning.

Not offended, Steve but, I admit, your reply did annoy me, hence my sarcastic response. I believe we all have a sense of humor (although some hide it pretty well).:D
