I have done some Google searches as well as on this forum, but have not found a solution to my problem. Most of what I have found has to do with disaster recovery or restoring a corrupted inbox or something similar.

My problem is self-inflicted. I was attempting to delete one e-mail from my inbox, and inadvertently deleted several good e-mails while holding the shift key down, and, in so doing, bypassed the Trash.

So my question is: Is there a relatively easy way after-the-fact to recover those "permanently" deleted e-mails?

    TIA

Well - As soon as I posted, the forum popped up some similar threads, based on key words no doubt, and one was precisely my problem (http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=23143) - nice feature - I've always liked vBulletin forums, if for nothing else, for their excellent archive and search funtions. For some reason my keyword search before I posted didn't turn that one up.

According to Ramona's answer in that one, I'm $crewed. Any additional comments appreciated.

I never did anything like you describe unintentionally or not. I did a test with trepidation, and the mail was in the trash folder. And, it could moved to wherever I wanted(or dragged and dropped). So, it is a case of the message by-passing the Trash folder. If you Empty the trash, after that, it is different story.

    Welcome to the Forum, Peva!

    Hi Peva,

If you haven't compacted your folders, you might be able to retrieve the mail. Open the Inbox with Notepad, the file without the MSF extension. Do you see the messages you deleted? if so, then read this page:
Restore Delete Mail - Under Specific Conditions

Well - strange thing. I go back this afternoon and open Netscape back up, and hit "Get MSG ", and the "lost" e-mails magically re-appear as read e-mails :) (to be honest I didn't look to see if they were there upon opening Netscape, but did suddenly notice them after the download - I *think* that's when they got restored).

I had closed and re-opened Netscape before posting here earlier in an attempt to recover the missing e-mails (wishful thinking), but, as well as I can recall, did not do a fresh download until just now. (And I had not compacted.)

Thanks for the replies. And Ramona, I saved the link about restoring deleted e-mails to my hard drive for future reference just in case...

    Thanks again!

    Hi Peva,

I'm so glad your messages reappeared! What you might do, now that Mail is working, and that is backup your Profiles folder. In the event of another such problem, all you have to do is remove the corrupt Mail folder, and move in your backup. If you have a lot of messages, archive them someplace other than the Inbox. Compact your folders frequently.
