XP comes with a utility you can use for this. Just create a batch file with the proper command and use task scheduler run the file at the time you want it to shut down.

    Microsoft DOS shutdown command

To create a batch file that would shut down the computer, open notepad and type:

    shutdown -s

Save it somewhere as shutdown.bat and then schedule it to run when you want it to shut down. Works like a charm.
