I have an HP Photosmart C7280 all-in-one which includes fax, and a brand new HP Pavilion Slimline S5000 series computer with Windows 7 and Word 2010. The C7280 was never very satisfactory and is becoming less so. I would like to replace it with a Canon inkjet all-in-one.

The Canon that looks right for my needs is highly rated but has no fax feature. It would mean getting a separate fax, and space is tight.

The question is can I use my computer to fax material?

Yes you can If you have 1 of those old FAX/MODEMS.
I have not used 1 of those in ages.

Or you can go to: HTTP://faxzero.com
They will sent a fax for you. For a fee.

    Hope this helps

    Here's another option:
    Quote from MS Office 2003.

Using the fax service in Microsoft® Office 2003, you can send a Portable Document Format (PDF) document to a recipient through a fax service provider. It is recommended that you check with your fax provider first to see if they support PDF documents.

    Open Microsoft Office Outlook® 2003.
On the File menu, point to New, and then click Internet Fax.
Complete the Fax Recipient, Fax Number, and Subject fields.
Click in the Attach field, click the Insert File button on the E-mail toolbar, and then locate the PDF file on your computer.
Click Insert, choose any other options you want, and then click Send.
NOTE It is recommended you use a cover sheet and complete at least the To field to ensure you reach the intended recipient.

I don't know whether MS Office 2010 will do exactly the same. Cheers Neil.

Queuedecoton, I see that you marked this thread as resolved, but it isn't clear which solution you used.

    As from our instructions:

My grateful response to everyone who answered must not have gotten through. The solution is to get a Canon MX340 which was highly rated but has no fax feature and get a separate el cheapo fax. I don't use faxes very much & I could get them done at our security desk, but I prefer the privacy of doing it myself. Anyway, I'd rather get a really good printer/copier/scanner without the fax than a so-so four-in-one.

Just read these postings, and I see that yours is resolved. However, If you buy a USB fax modem adapter, then use Windows Fax service, it will work fine.
