If you have followed my other thread, it looks like my motherboard is bad. The obvious solution is it is old and time for a new machine. But, for me a new machine would not help anything I do, I don’t game, use video editing, etc. Reading email, typing into word, etc. will take just as long as it does on my 6 yr old XP machine.

My real concern is Windows 7. For modeling, I make my own decals for myself and others in local clubs. To do this I use an ALPS dry transfer printer (MD1000). This is old, but it has the ability to print white. That is it has white ink. This allows me to create white letters for red box cars. If I upgrade from XP to W7. Can I still do this? I am not aware of vista or W7 drivers. It is a parallel printer and has special features not available on any other printer that I know of.

    Thanks,

Why get a new machine...And or why get a new machine with Window 7 when you can get a new or used machine with windows XP;)

It looks like my motherboard is bad, so I need to get something. If I can just replace the motherboard, that would be best. My computer is 6 years old, all IDE, parallel, etc. so not likely with a new motherboard.

I had thought about duel boot to either XP or W7, or just install XP on a new machine if MS will allow me to transfer my license to it.

    Thanks,
    Clark
