I have several long mail lists that are essentially identical, except that 1 or 2 names differ on each list. Up to now, I have had to generate each list separately, and errors abound.

Is there any way to COPY a list to a new name, and make the 1 or 2 edits from there?

    JGB,

Once you create a new List, then highlight all the entries in the List you wish to copy, left click, and drag the highlighted entries to the new List.

I hope I'm understanding you correctly...

Didn't work. I want to take an existing long list and create a duplicate new list to edit out or add in 1 or 2 names, keeping both lists.

When I open the old list I can highlight any or all the names, but not Clip Copy. Even CTRL-C does not work. When I open the new blank list to paste (assuming I could) there is no Clip Paste or CTRL-V functions, nor can I click on the old list and drag it over. I can only drag individual names into the new list from the general address book, and this is error prone with a long list.

This should be easy, but it's got me stymied.

    JGB,

Highlight all names in the list you want to copy
Hold down the Left mouse button and drag the names to the blank list.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    JGB,

Address books and Mail lists are the weakest part of Mozilla based browsers/mail.

The proceedure given by Ramona is correct.
Create NEW list ( different name)
Open OLD list - Select ALL in right panel. (CTRL+A)
Hold left Mouse button down and "drag" to left panel (NEW list) and release.

    Please see
    Adressbooks
    and
    Mail Lists

As to editing "list" please take note of HOW list work with regards to creating them and the relationship with the Parent Book.

Post back if we can be of further assistance

    regards:captjlddavis

I can highlight all the names in the old list but not copy or drag. If the new empty list is open, I cannot access the old list, and the paste function will not work. The copy function is greyed out, and CTRL-C does not work.

I cannot copy or drag a single or group of names from an old list to a new list.

I can drag any names from the master list (everybody) to a new list, but NOT from an existing mail list.

    JGB,

There is no copy, paste, Ctrl+C function for the Address Book. The only way to move names from one list to the other, or Personal Address Book to another Address Book is to highlight the file, and drag and drop with the left mouse button.

When you hold down the left mouse button on the highlighted files, you will see a circle with a line in the middle Ø. Then when you start dragging the highlighted names the cursor will appear with a tiny rectangle attached. Do you see this happening?

    Hey captjlddavis, that DID work.

I never FIRST created the empty new list. I misunderstood Ramona and tried to create the new list on the fly.

So, to dup for change, FIRST make a new blank list with just a list name and save it.
Then click on the old list, select all the names, drag em over and make whatever edits.

    Thanks guys.

And yes, this address list is a bit of a weak area on Mozilla. But it still beats IE any which way. There are other "weak" areas. Does the Mozilla development team seek/accept suggestions from those of us who use it?
