That thread title may not be too clear, but here's the situation. My HDD is partitioned as follows:

C:\ Windows XP and other system stuff
D:\ MS Office and other major programs
E:\ Netscape and other Internet stuff
F:\ Miscellaneous backup copies from other partititions

I've always had the Netscape 7.1 folder and netscape.net file in E:\, but the profiles (old and a new one) are in C:\Documents and Settings\. I recently had to build a new Windows Users profile and I'm running out of free space on C:\. I still have plenty of free space on E:\. I know I could reconfigure the partitions to make C:\ larger, but can I more simply configure things so all the Netscape folders and files will be on E:\ and not use C:\ for them?

What type of info does the Netscape folder hold?

Is there an option/setting to relocate the folder within Netscape?

Steve: Thanks for replying. The E:\Netscape 7.1 folder contains the Netscape program itself (netscape.exe) as well as many of NS's subfolders and files. I believe the NS parts that are now in C:\ are mostly the Profile and subfolders and files.

When NS Composer is open, in Netscape 7.1 Mail > Edit > Account Name\Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings\username\Local Folders, there's a window for determining where the Local directory is. Right now it's in C:\Documents and Settings. Do I just change that to E:\Netscape 7.1? And if so, will that move the NS folders now in C:\ to E:\? Or would I have to copy and paste them to move them to that new location?

If there is a move or change option it "should" move the files and keep em intact.

    BOBBO,

First, close Netscape and Quick Launch, then back up the Profiles folder
    Next:
Copy the entire Profiles folder to a safe location. You may want to delete your Cache folder, and the XUL.mfl file, before backing up.

Note: If you copy your profile to any backup media (CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, etc.), your folder and all files and subfolders within it will become write-protected. To prevent this from happening, zip your Profiles folder with WinZip, or a similar program.

Copy the Profiles folder to the new location
Using WordPad, open both the prefs.js file, and then the panacea.dat file. Both reside in the *.slt folder.
    Click on Edit | Find
Type the old profile path, e.g.,
    C:\\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\\USERPROFILE\\APPLICATION DATA\\Netscape\\Profiles\\bobbo\\12ab34cd.slt

When the first instance of the path is found, click on Edit | Replace
Type the new profile path, e.g.,
    E:\\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\\USERPROFILE\\APPLICATION DATA\\Netscape\\Profiles\\bobbo\\12ab34cd.slt

Remember to to use two back slashes instead of one:
    user_pref( "browser.cache.disk.parent_directory ", "E:\\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\\USERPROFILE\\APPLICATION DATA\\Netscape\\Profiles\\bobbo\\12ab34cd.slt ");

Netscape and Netscape Mail should find the new Profile location. If not, then edit the "Local directory" path accordingly.
