What the title says. I don't hear it every time but it's starting to bother me. I noticed it when I was doing something in Photoshop, so I'm guessing it was the graphics card. It does a tiny tiny tiny little sound like a beep (but not the usual sound of a beep) when I move the slider or change the angle of the shadow (which is a "rotating" slider also). I think it processes the info because it's showing the preview in realtime. But I don't know if it's a good thing for the PC to be making a sound I can hear, no matter how faint. Now I hear it outside of Photoshop, I'm just not sure what is causing it.

I hope you can give advice on this. (Yes, this a very new laptop. That's why I'm uber paranoid and a bit irritated that this might be another problem. If I do find out it is one, I have a mind to finally return this thing.) :(

It sounds like a warning beep to me (a process cannot be carried out the way you intended). Then again, could it be a temperature warning? You could install Everest in my signature, it should give you temperature readouts (in the Sensors section). Is the fan running on high all the time?

Even if it were a temperature problem, it could be due to badly installed drivers. I would suggest looking at the manufacturer's website for updated drivers for the chipset and the graphics or uninstall and reinstall those drivers. I may be able to help if you would like to try, but if you live in the city, find the nearest Service Center and drop it into their shop. It's under warranty so let them fix it

    Luck

Thanks, I'm checking out what you suggested. If it's supposed to be a warning, though, shouldn't it be a little a LOT more audible? The beep is more in the range of that mosquito ringtone (although its pitch is a notch lower and is less irritating :p) I wish I could record the sound it's making but it's hard to "catch" it, and I doubt it'd be audible on microphone.

Here are the temperature readings from Everest:
    CPU 26 °C (79 °F)
    GPU 53 °C (127 °F)
    (HD) FUJITSU MHV2080BH 49 °C (120 °F)
(although I was notified the version doesn't support my Intel Calistoga chipset so it filed a report :D)

Thanks for the quick reply, Matt. ^_^

If the free version of Everest reports:
you may need to use the "pay" version to run it with your chipset. There are other free hardware identifiers/readers, but from those temperature readings I would say GPU is somewhat high and the HD is somewhat high. The CPU is good. We cannot read very much into those figures because Everest (the old/free version) cannot "see" through your chipset drivers.

See if there are utilities at the laptop's website for diagnosing problems. There may be utilities on the disks that came with the machine.
There should be temperature readouts in BIOS settings at startup (also, see if there is a SMART readout for your HDD). If all the temps are low at startup (and you have allowed time for "cool-down ") I would suspect a bad installation of drivers...and the temperatures go up when running Windows...yes, drivers.

Pinpointing the drivers involved...GPU and HDD "controllers ", I would think the chipset drivers were installed incorrectly.

As I said, drop it into your nearest Service Center if possible. If not possible, post back with the make and model of the laptop. Let's see what information is provided at the manufacturer's website :)
