I am thinking about upgrading my xp system onto a SSD, trouble is I am not sure what to go for, apart from a 128Gb.

    Any advise is appreciated.

Personally I have both the older Intel X25-M drive and a later 520-series SSD.

Happy with both. Not top performers but reliable.

If I were in the market for a new drive today, I'd probably go for a Samsung 840 Pro Series drive.

Oh, if you are still running XP, please forget about an SSD. No good/no use on that OS.

Which is what I just did (the 256Gb version) and so far, very happy with it.

See Toms Hardware, Best SSDs for the Money, March 2013.

Are you familiar with the phrase "throwing good money after bad "?

That's what you'll do getting an SSD for Windows XP IMNSHO.

Want to improve Windows XP performance? DUMP it! Get Windows 7 (or Windows 8 if you feel brave).

Then get an SSD for Windows 7 and you wonder what you ever saw in Windows XP.

XP is too d@mn OLD, it was around long before SSD came to the mainstream.

I agree with Arie. XP needs to go away. It was designed over 13 years ago to support legacy software and hardware from the DOS era, 10 years before that. And it was designed with security as an afterthought. Windows 7 was designed with security as a top priority and it was designed to support modern and future hardware.

XP does not natively support SATA. I don't know of any SSDs that use the EIDE (PATA) interface.

If a more modern system is not in the budget, I would simply max out my RAM, ensure I had a good graphics solution, then save for a new computer.

Do make sure your hardware is fully compatible first.

There's nothing wrong with the Intel 320 series, either. I currently have two installed, a 120GB and a 160GB. They're fast and quiet.
