    More info please:

    1. Cable as in parallel/serial or cable as in Nic to Nic? If Nic, twisted pair, coax, fiber, what?

    2. Show connected where/how?

    3. Ask for password to do what?

    4. Using ??? protocol(s)?

    5. And your operating system(s)?

    6. Host name?? Are you having problems with an ICS setup or something? If so, I will have more questions but no sense asking them if it isn't ICS (or a 3rd party app like wingate/sygate/etc.)

Parallel direct cable between host( Compaq laptop running WIN me ) and guest (Decktop Micron running WIN98)

I first start host by clicking The Direct cable button
It shows a dialog box stating that it is waiting for a guest to connect.
I then click on the Direct cable connect button on the guest and it shows it connects---- Then it asks for a password as I have set it up--- I enter my password---- it then comes back and asks for the host computer name and ( domain ) I enter the computer name and it says it is looking for shared files but then another dialog box pops up saying it can't fine the host computer!!

    Thanks Ken b

Ah so. More to work with now.

    "4. Using ??? protocol(s)? " got missed though.

And the part about asking for a domain name makes me wonder.

Try NetBeui for a protocol and make sure both PCs are set for workgroup rather than domain and that they are both in the same workgroup.

Workgroup name should be 8 characters or less and no spaces or non-alpha characters.
