I mistakenly installed the CA Internet Security Suite 2007 for Vista on one of my Windows XP machine, and now when I restart the machine it takes long time to comeup and ends with the RPC error.

Can some one guide me how to come over this problem, by uninstalling or even by removing some boot files so that it will not start when I reboot my machine.

    Thanks your support.

Hello smartcard and welcome to the Board,

The best option would be to uninstall the suite.

I'm not familiar with CA at all, but there should be entries in Add/Remove. Have you tried that? Do the steps below before trying to uninstall - stopping software before uninstalling it usually results in a cleaner uninstall.

See if in CA's Help there is a topic on what the uninstall procedure is. Another resource would be their web site. Just as Symantec has uninstall procedures and tools for uninstalling, so may CA.

For keeping it from starting up, there may be an option in the program itself. Bring up the program's GUI - click on the tray icon and look around for an Options section or tab.

Or try using msconfig: start > run > type msconfig > ok > Startup tab and uncheck the CA entries.

CA most likely also has an entry in XP's Services. Start > run > type services.msc and find the CA line and double click on it. In the ensuing dialog box, use the drop down under startup type and disable.

    Regards - Charles
