My C: drive is an 80G hard drive with 2 partitions. C = 19G. and D = 60G. My problem is when I installed WinXP it made an unalocated drive of 7012. At first the 2 partitions we 19 & 60. I'm not sure what I did on loading a software program but would not boot. Started over and reloaded WinXP. This time it shows C: = 19G but will only let me load on the unalocated c: drive of 7012. Tried using Partition Magic 8, but that showed 19G and not the unalocated C: drive of 7012. I looked at c: with Partition Magic 8 and it shows 19G, but when I go into Windows Explorer it only shows 7012G. How can I get my 19G back ?

    Sorry kckitchen but I'm confused.

I understand that you have a hard drive of 80Gb that should contain a 19Gb C: partition and a 60Gb D: partition but after that, I'm lost. Especially with the 7012G thing since if that is Gigabytes, it's about 87 times larger than your drive's total space.

If you have just set the PC up and don't have lots of stuff to lose, I'd suggest starting over for a 3rd time.

Boot from the CD, elect to install, and when you get to the screen that shows existing partitions, whack all of them.

Then set up a C: partition the size you want (and 19Gb seems very reasonable) and install the operating system.

Once that is done, go into XP's disk management and use the unallocated space to build your D: partition then format it. You should be in business at that point.

If you want to try to salvage what you have now, I think you need to explain a little more.

Sorry, C = 6GB and D has all my data on it and cannot be reformated or partitioned because I will lose all of my data.

My partitions are: c = 6GB, D = 60GB (35GB left) because of data on D. When I first loaded XP there was C = 6GB + about 11GB unallocated. Merged C's 6GB & unallocated to make 19GB. System OK at that point. Formated using NTFS

While loading programs back to C, added something that XP did not like. Too hard to figure out so just started over. After XP was loaded for the 2nd time it came out to show:

    Partition Magic 8 showed = 19GB
    Windows Explorer showed = 6GB

Took to computer person and he said to start again, still did not work.

    Hope this helps.

How do I find XP Disk Management ?

    Hello kckitchen,

How do I find XP Disk Management ?

Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance > Admin Tools > Computer Management > and under Storage > Disk Management.

Also, if you use the Help & Support applet on the start menu, typing Disk into the search box gets you to Disk Management among other things.

    Regards - Charles

I do have Control Panel, but NO Performance & Maintenance > Admin Tools. I am using Windows XP Home SVC2. Went to Help and found "Using Disk Management ". Went there and it says:

    Disk 0
    Basic
19.08GB to the right it says C: = 6.85GB NTFS But go into C: properties and it says 4.10GB Free Space. What happened to the rest of the 19.08GB ?

That's what I am trying to fix. If only 4.10 left where did the rest go ?

Went to Partition Magic 8 and it looks OK. It's only when I right click of C: and go into properties and it does not show the 19.08GB.
