I'm on EarthLink dial-up, looking into Qwest's DSL. I'm told the phone line will go into the modem and onward to the CPU. For whatever reason, can I unplug the phone line, bypass the modem and plug into the CPU for dial-up? As long as I still have service with EarthLink. Think of it as a car's spare tire, for when the modem goes bad. (Of course, I could just wait and find out. But I want a clue in advance.)

Sure you can do that, but you won't have DSL service when you do...

You may not have to retain the dial up connection.
Most DSL subscriptions include a dial up connection with it.

Thanks, guys. Your replies are what I expected, but I wanted advance input. Now I'm about to take the plunge. I hope I won't become one of the many people who have horror stories about poor service from Qwest. EarthLink service was good, but I couldn't get answers about upgrading from those CSRs overseas.
